Karen Pinoci, DMA, cello, and Claudia Baumgaertner Lemmerz, piano, make classical music relevant and bring it alive to students Grades K - 8 by connecting music to the history, art, and science they are already learning in school. It is essential for children to learn to appreciate life today by making them aware of how different life was in the past. Pointing out parallel events between Europe and the US in corresponding eras is important for a complete understanding of the development of cultural history. Music, dance, fashion, art, architecture and the sciences are affected by these event and change with each generation over hundreds of years. In this unique Cross-Curricular Educational Music Program the Moonlight Duo combines music, history, science and the arts and takes students Grades K - 8 on a trip in their Time Machine. With chamber music pieces by various composers, the Musical Journey through History begins in the Baroque Era, where composers like J. S. Bach reflect the “Enlightenment” of Europe. From there we travel to the Classical Era where composers such as Mozart are writing for Kings and Queens in expected styles and forms. The journey continues with the Romantic Era, where composers are expressing personal emotions and telling stories. Here Nationalism and folk music make each composer’s voice unique in style and sound. The Time Machine covers a wide range of Core Curriculum Standards in an appealing visual and live music performance. Study Guide click here to take a look at our Study Guide
The Time Machine program
provides the perfect blend of music and visuals for today's audiences. If you
are looking for a brief history of music combined with other cultural aspects
and historic events in Europe and the United States, I highly recommend this
program. It will capture the attention of your students.
... In addition to
hearing classical music beautifully played, their Time Machine marries music to
art and to particular historical events. The Powerpoint Presentation and props
presented take the students back in time to understand history and better and
feel the "old way of living"...
...the approach with
the material really held the attention of the children in the audience... the
program is a wonderful combination of classical music, history, science and art.
The power point presentation should help make history come alive for the
students and reinforce many aspects of the school curriculum. ...I loved the mixture of music and oral explanations. The "show and tell" props in between gave the presentation another interesting twist. The musicians work together very well, you can see and feel their enjoyment of making music and presenting their program. The instruments, cello and piano, were well balanced, none of the instruments was too dominate... Elisabeth S. Mountain Lakes, NJ
...Ms. Baumgaertner
Lemmerz and Ms. Pinoci demonstrate exceptional talent not just is their own
musical performance, but also in their understanding of child development. We
have seen them adapt to a variety of groups. They are always organized, prepared
and professional...A most exciting and unique musical experience for all was
their recent concert at our school that incorporated the idea of a "Time
Machine". This original power point performance provided us with a musical
journey through history, incorporating the arts and sciences along with music
through the centuries. It of course captured the imagination of the children who
attended...
