The Moonlight Duo
began in the fall of 2005 with the vision of bringing audiences of all ages
closer to classical music. A major part of their mission is performing for
seniors who
can no longer get out to public concerts. With
the support of generous donors and sponsors, the
Moonlight Duo has established an
ongoing concert series for independent senior groups, senior residences and nursing homes
in New Jersey. The
repertoire chosen for these concerts is based on a wide range of classical chamber music pieces from
the Baroque thru the Romantic Eras to Folk Music. Throughout the concerts, the artists speak about the composers,
the history and culture that surrounded the pieces performed in an engaging
anecdotal style.
In their unique
Cross-Curricular Educational Program
Time Machine,
the
Moonlight Duo
combines music, history, science and the arts and takes
students Grades 4, 5, 6 and 7 on
A Musical Journey Through History.
The accompanying Power Point Presentation covers a wide range of Core Curriculum
Standards as an enhancement of this live music performance.
An exciting highlight for the current season is the Moonlight Duo's newest program "HERstory" - Three Centuries of Women Composer History for cello and piano. With music by women composers from Europe and the US, the Duo introduces a variety of rarely performed treasure.
